The ministry of Jesus Christ to the poor was enhanced in East Jamaica Conference (EJC) on August 11, 2015 when Emmanuel Ministries from Florida, presented an industrial stove to the Conference to assist with the preparation of meals for the poor and needy in Kingston & St. Andrew. The stove will be installed in the kitchen used by the Community Services department at the Conference, to prepare meals served at the Good Samaritan Inn (GSI).
The stove, which was custom built by Servewell Jamaica, was presented by Bro. and Sis. Nadine Miller of Emmanuel Ministries from the Port Charlotte SDA Church in Florida. The Millers were supported by Administrative & Spanish Ministries pastor of the Port Charles SDA Church, Pastor Art Graham and his wife Prudence.
To receive the gift on behalf of EJC, was Dr. Eric Nathan, president of East Jamaica Conference and Dr. Meric Walker, Secretary. They were supported by Pastor Carl Cunningham, Director of the Sabbath School, Personal Ministries and Community Services department as well as Elder Waldon Wright, Director of Health, Stewardship and Wills &Trust Services Departments and Elder Vermont Murray, Manager of the GSI.
Representing the Community Services Federation, which is responsible for the preparation of meals for the GSI, was Sis. Lorna Fowler, president of the East Jamaica Conference Community Service Federation. Fowler was thanked by Pastor Cunningham for her role in initiating the drive to refurbish the kitchen used to prepare meals for the Good Samaritan Inn.
“I want to thank Sis. Fowler for her initiative in leading us all in the acceptance of the burden for the refurbishing of the kitchen,” said Pastor Cunningham. “It is out of this gesture that we had a fund raising effort and a concert to raise funds to refurbish and to better equip the kitchen.”
Sis. Lorna Fowler expressed thanks to Emanuel Ministries for their donation on behalf of the Community Services Federation and said she hoped that this donation was just one of many other donations to come.
Nadine Miller, who incidentally is the daughter of Sis. Lorna Fowler, said the seed for the donation was planted when she saw the Good Samaritan Inn being highlighted in a mission spotlight some time ago.
“My mother told us of the need and we consulted the Lord,” said Mrs.Miller. “We were able to bear fruits and hear we are.”
In making the donation Nadine said she hoped that the stove would be used to feed many.
Pastor Eric Nathan, in expressing thanks on behalf of the Conference, affirmed his support for the GSI and said he was happy to know that the Lord continues to work upon the hearts of kind individuals to assist his cause.
“We are going to do all we can to continue the ministry of the Good Samaritan Inn since what happened in the Bible where the good Samaritan reached out and helped the less fortunate person, East Jamaica Conference with ASI will be doing all we can to continue this ministry. If Jesus was around, he would be doing it and he has asked us to continue,” Dr. Nathan said.
