Bank of Nova Scotia Labours at GSI
The Good Samaritan Inn received some needed attention from corporate Jamaica on Monday May 25, 2015, as the country celebrated National Labour Day.
Two years ago while reading an article on the Good Samaritan and then seeing a feature of the Inn on the Hope Channel, Ms. Sharon Duhaney of the Bank of Nova Scotia was inspired by what she saw happening at the Inn and wanted to help.
One day she decided to visit the Good Samaritian Inn, but not before getting lost down town, and then being directed to the right place by the very same street people who use the Inn.
Having the Good Samaritian Inn on her heart, Ms. Duhaney went to her Manager Mr. Fedreick Williams, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial officer and Chief Administration Officer at the Bank of Nova Scotia and expressed the desire to do a Labour Day project at the Inn.
Mr. Williams bought into the suggestion, seeing it as a good opportunity to do something that could impact the community.
At 7:00 a.m. on Monday the Nova Scotia Bank team arrived ready for work. They painted the building, replaced tiles that had fallen from the male and female bathrooms and painted it as well. They did outside beautification to include the cutting of edges and the planting of flowers.
According to Mr. Williams, “we spent today close to a hundred thousand dollars…that’s actual dollars spent. You know the time of the team members, the energy and support, that’s not costed.”
Project Manager for the Inn, Mr. Vermont Murray, says he was very happy and grateful for the work carried out by the Bank of Nova Scotia team. He alluded to them adding a level of freshness to the work at the Inn.
The Scotia team also donated a mop bucket to the Inn.
